The definition of homelessness is often difficult to understand or explain. Due to the limited funding sources for those in need, our continuum of care has adopted the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) definition of homelessness. In order to be eligible for rental assistance within the 10 county region individuals or families must be sleeping in a place not meant for human habitation (living on the streets) OR living in a homeless shelter. Please see the homeless categories link for more information on Category 1 (Literally homeless).
Individuals or families who are at risk of becoming homeless might also be eligible for housing assistance through preventative assistance. Eligibility for this type of assistance requires individuals or families to have been provided with a court ordered eviction and meet income limits.
